Bible Journaling and Notes- Genesis

I bought a Jesus Bible awhile back and I wanted to take more notes and Bible journal, so I bought a Journal the Word Bible so that I could habe more space to take notes. When I got my new Bible, I copied everything I had from my Jesus Bible and continued to take notes and journal in it. For this post, I thought I would show some of my notes and journaling. Up until a year ago when I bought my Jesus Bible, I didnt really write in my Bible, but now I write in it as much as I can so that I can have notes and reminders throughout.

I made this note for the front of my Bible. I underline and take notes in these colors. Green are verses of encouragement or verses that don’t fit under another category. Red is for people of the Bible. So when it tells about Deborah or David, I underline and take notes in red. Pink are verses I want to remember in my marriage or how to be a good wife, etc. Purple are verses about children or how to raise children. Blue is for verses about works or jobs. Orange is for verses about enemies and how I should act or treat them. Black is for verses that I can apply to my life or show people if they have questions about a certain topic (ex- should they go on ghost tours during Halloween, etc)

I have shared this before, but I love this. I also have one that is for my war binder. I found these on Pinterest.

One thing I do is I like to draw pictures and take notes on sermons I watch on TV or listen to. These are just a few notes I took on a sermon I watched on TV.

I wrote this as a reminder for what the rainbow stands for. It is a reminder of God’s covenant. I wanted this because I stand for the true meaning of the rainbow.

This is just some notes about the fall and how Satan is still making us doubt and wonder about our faith in God. I wrote and underlined in black because it is something I can apply to my life now.

When I dont want to fill up the side of my Bible on one topic, I save room and put post-its on it too. They can be moved when I read the Bible and that gives me room to write about other topics in the verses I read as well. These notes were from the book, Why Her? by Nicki Koziarz. Highly recommend this book, by the way.

Another thing I like to do is make lists. For example, I have the days of creation at the beginning of Genesis, the 10 Commandments, the plagues, etc.

These are just a few things I have added to my Bible from the book of Genesis. I love finding ways to take notes, journal, and study.

Bible Study Playlist

I was listening to my playlist of my Christian music on Spotify during my Bible Study and it gave me the idea to post some of my favorite songs from my playlist and kind of give a reason why for each one. Some of these are newer, some are from my high school years.

I have been a fan of Kutless since college when a friend introduced me to their music. I didnt listen to Christian much then because I didnt like how “soft” most of it was. She introduced me to some Christian rock and Kutless became one of my favorites. I was even able to sell merchandise for them a couple of times, which was awesome. This song is probably one of my favorites of theirs because of the message about God caring about each of us and we aren’t just another face to him.

Do I really need to explain this one? I loved DC Talk growing up and this was really the first Christian rock song that I loved. It also seemed to be the anthem for all youth groups and camps at the time.

I love Seventh Day Slumber’s worship album because it has a more rock feel to it, but I also love this version and the band because of the lead singer’s testimony. If you don’t know about it, you need to look it up. Very moving.

This was the “Romantic” song for back in the day, but people don’t or didn’t know that it is really a worship song. I love that it can be heard as either, because isn’t that what worship is? A love song to God. I get chills every time I think of it as more of a worship song than a crossover pop rock song. Really listen to it next time as a worship song. I usually cry.

I included this one because 1. It is newer and 2. It gets stuck in my head often. I like the lyrics and really like hearing it when I am doing my Bible Study or getting ready for church on Sunday.

I love this song and it always makes me so happy when this version comes on because it makes me proud that my alma mater has had so much success with their version. It is absolutely beautiful.

This group is the only positive thing my ex gave me a love for. I was able to see them in concert and bawled the whole time. They are so intimate in their worship and this song gets me every time. I was a blubbery mess at the end of this one. If you haven’t heard Shane and Shane and you like more acoustic music, you HAVE to listen to them.

This is a medley of old hymns by Anthem Lights. Although I like more contemporary Christian music, I can never forget my Pentecostal roots. It is how I was raised and what has kept me all these years, so this medley reminds me of where I came from. I am proud of my grandma’s Appalachian roots and Pentecostal background. I am a country girl at heart.

This is probably my favorite version of “Oceans.” If you haven’t heard Caleb and Kelsey, they are another duo you need to check out!

I was listening to the Bible on CD when I was in my car today. It was on Numbers 11. In this chapter, the Israelites were complaining about the manna that God gave them to eat. They wanted meat and referred to when they were in Egypt and ate whatever they wanted. Instead of being grateful to God for delivering them from slavery and Egypt and for providing hundreds of thousands of them with food, they complained. This made my heart hurt because even over 2000 years later, we are still complaining. We complain about our circumstances rather than be grateful for what we do have or trusting that God will deliver us from our circumstances.

Moses also complains in this chapter. He questions God’s decision in making him a leader. Churches all over preach about what an awesome leader Moses was, but throughout the Old Testament he questions God and His decision about making him a leader. He makes excuses as to why he can’t do it (ie- speech problems). Rather than be honored and be bold, he is constantly questioning God.

These were just a couple of things that I was thinking about as I listened to Numbers today. It still applies today. We have too many people complaining and questioning God when we should have grateful hearts and be bold.

Bible Crate/Box

I have posted about my War Binder, but today I reorganized my Bible Crate and put all my essentials in it. I didn’t have the lid on it before and it was plain on the outside, but I put stickers on it and added the lid so I could tote it around.

The outside of the box- added fun stickers and the lid to carry it around

The lid has a spot for supplies. I put an extra pin and paper clips in just in case.

The inside- I have my Jesus Bible, War Binder, markers, another journal, my Bible Study I found online, an extra devotion book,  and my daily Jesus Calling book.  This is an easy way to keep all your “Bible stuff” in one place. This is just the stuff that I use regularly for journaling and Bible Study

War Binder

So, I have had a prayer journal for some time now, but it was just a college ruled notebook with just writing on the inside and nothing much else. I have seen people taking travelers notebooks and making really cute journals with them, so a few days ago I ordered a notebook, some inserts and stickers. I have all my inserts in and have planned what each insert will be used for. Below are pictures of my journal and inserts and a description of what each insert will be used for.

This journal came plain and I just added the sticker from the packet I got. I didn’t want to add too much to the front.

The first insert will be used for scripture. I didn’t want to add too much to the cover because it already has a pattern, so I just added a Bible journal card I bought and attached it with some stickers. In my journal insert, I am going to split it up in sections- marriage, children, job, encouragement/other and enemies. Scriptures will be written for each of these categories because these categories are ones I feel I need most in my life. To prepare to start writing in my scripture section, I went through all my highlighted verses in my Bible app and gave each category a specific highlight color. When I go to write my scriptures down, I can reference to the color I want to write down or focus on that day.

This section is the worship section. I just added a couple of stickers and a Bible journal card. I will be using this section to write down worship lyrics, poems, etc.

This section is going to be used for Bible Study/ Sermon notes. I will put my notes from Sunday services as well as my Podcasts I listen to or devotionals I read.  I just added a Bible journal card and some stickers. The gold heart was already on the insert, so I just put the God sticker in the middle because He is my heart.

This was my first attempt at decorating an insert. This is the insert that came with my journal. I just got my other inserts today. This insert came a few days ago and it was plain. I didn’t think I would like it, but I think I actually like the plain ones better because you can decorate it more and it doesn’t look cluttered because there is not a pattern on it. If I add more inserts in the future, I will probably buy plain ones. This insert is for my prayers. I have it sectioned already (hence the post-its). I will probably use my decorative paper clips that came with my inserts (they are in a couple of the other pictures ) to keep my place. My sections are Eli, Chris, family, work, church, and other. I have already written prayers down for Chris and Eli. I chose these sections because those are the most important parts of my life.

This is the start of my journal. I am excited to keep adding to it and hopefully I will be able to connect with God more.
